Shamalamayim: Intro
This was initially an attempt to deliver a panel of content every Saturday on reddit, but the focus is now more on learning how to do webcomics and cultivating a community of similarly-minded heads while doing. This process is teaching me more about the importance of (and how to) slow down, and the impossibility of perfection (and acceptance of same) than any of the various self-improvement ventures I engage in.
The title is my second Jewish name for a comic. The first was PHYLACTERY, which I worked so hard on but became a sweat in solitude as opposed to invite the public in, so I've jumped ship from it. SHAMALAMAYIM is from Shamayim, the Hebrew word for heaven, which I had previously thought was barely a thing in Judaism, but it turns out that it's a thing. There will be some investigations into celestial and demonic topographies in this comic, but thematically the name (for me) resonates most with brother Curtis Mayfield's suggestion that "You Make Your Own Heaven and Hell Right Here On Earth." Also the shorthand (shama) is almost shame which has always been a thing I've had and dealt with and even moreso recently, it seems.
